NAMM 2026 is in the books, and Behringer made some announcements that WING users need to know about.

They soft launched a completely new StageConnect product line - the SC series - alongside a range extender that doubles your maximum cable distance. If you've been using the Klark Teknik DN4816 devices (or haven't explored StageConnect at all yet), this is worth your attention.

Quick StageConnect Refresher

StageConnect is a digital audio protocol built into the Behringer WING. It sends up to 32 channels of uncompressed 24-bit / 48 kHz audio bidirectionally over a single 3-pin XLR cable.

  • 32 channels total (any combination of inputs and outputs)

  • 0.4 ms latency (faster than AES50's 0.8 ms)

  • 40 m (131 ft) maximum cable length

  • Power over cable (18 W from the WING)

It's one of the most underutilized features of the WING ecosystem. One XLR cable gets you I/O expansion, USB recording, or personal monitoring - no network switch, no Cat5, no configuration headaches.

One important note on cables: StageConnect uses standard 3-pin XLR connectors, but you need a 110 ohm data-grade cable - the same spec used for DMX lighting and AES/EBU digital audio. Standard mic cables may work for short runs, but for reliable performance, use proper 110 ohm cables.

The New Behringer SC Line

The new SC series brings some significant upgrades over the existing DN4816 devices.

The biggest addition: MIDI integration. All three I/O units (SC88, SC16-I, SC16-O) include MIDI ports. The SC-U USB interface can transmit MIDI from your computer down StageConnect. I expect we'll see WING firmware updates that take advantage of this connectivity.

The SC line is also rumored to have expanded preamp control for inputs - moving beyond the line-level-only limitation of the DN4816 series.

I want to be upfront here: I haven't had these units in my studio yet. Everything I know about the SC line comes from conversations with contacts at Behringer and what was shown at the NAMM booth. I'll have full hands-on coverage once I get units in for testing.

Here's what was announced:

Behringer SC88: 8 In / 8 Out + MIDI

The updated version of the DN4888. 8 combo jack inputs, 8 XLR outputs, plus MIDI. Uses 16 of your 32 StageConnect channels.

Behringer SC16-O: 16 Outputs + MIDI

16 XLR outputs with MIDI ports. Your solution for expanding outputs on WING Compact or WING Rack setups.

Behringer SC16-I: 16 Inputs + MIDI

16 combo jack inputs with MIDI connectivity. The input-only counterpart to the SC16-O.

Behringer SC-U: USB-C Interface + MIDI

32-channel bidirectional USB interface - same concept as the DN4816-U but with USB-C and MIDI support. MIDI from your computer can now transmit down StageConnect to other devices in the chain.

Behringer SC-RE: Range Extender

This one doubles the maximum StageConnect distance from 40 m to 80 m (262 ft). It's powered over StageConnect - just drop it inline. Only one SC-RE is allowed per StageConnect chain, so you can't daisy-chain multiple extenders.

This opens up StageConnect for larger venues that previously needed AES50 for distance alone.
